Train services hit as northern grid collapses

Train services were disrupted in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh for the second consecutive day after the collapse of the northern power grid today in the afternoon.

Train services were disrupted in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh for the second consecutive day after the collapse of the northern power grid on Tuesday afternoon.

An official in Ambala said 35 trains were stuck at various places in the region. Trains bound for Delhi, Amritsar, Jammu, Ferozepur, Kalka and other places came to halt mid-way, they said, adding that Ambala-Kalka and Kalka-Ambala passenger trains were cancelled.

Delhi-bound Amrapali Express and the Paschim Express, heading towards Mumbai, were being operated by diesel engines, the officials said.The signal system was also affected at several places.
