The trial of Rahul Sahu in connection with Kavita and Gaurang Sahu double murder case that made headlines in the city in December began in a local court on Tuesday, with the prosecution producing four expert witnesses for statements. All four experts testified that it was a 'brutal murder'.
Rahul, a resident of Raipur Rani, Panckula, is charged with the murder of Kavita Sahu (17) and Gaurang Sahu (15). On December 16, 2011 the two siblings were found dead at their Sector 41 residence with their necks slit. Rahul is the maternal uncle of the siblings. Accused Rahul, who was present in the court, appeared tensed and confused when the witnesses were testifying before the court.
The four witnesses produced before the court of additional district and session judge (ADJ), Shalini Nagpal were Dr Ajay Kumar, assistant professor in the department of forensic sciences, GMCH-32; Dr Parijat, emergency medical officer (EMO), GMSH-16; Dr Vimukti Chauhan, forensic toxicology expert at central forensic lab (CFSL); and Sunita, senior scientific officer at central forensic lab (CFSL).
Forensic toxicology expert, Dr Vimukti Chauhan, who appeared before the court said, "It was a brutal murder, the toxicology report of the deceased Kavita and Gaurang shows no signs of suicide. The three empty cups which were recovered from the crime scene verified that no poison or toxic substance was used before murdering the teenagers."
While, two other witnesses Dr Ajay Kumar and Dr Parijat testified before the court, that the post-mortem report of Gaurang and Kavita clearly shows that the duo was murdered brutally with a sharp edged weapon."
Other witness senior scientific officer, Sunita, who was partially examined testified before the court, "DNA test is positive-the blood samples recovered from the sweater and shawl of the accused Rahul and from the crime scene have matched with that of Kavita and Gaurang." The court however adjourned the hearing of the case as the court time was over. The case is now slated for September 5.
