Tribute paid to Jawaharlal Nehru

The members of Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) paid tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on his 50th death anniversary at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, Sector 35, here on Tuesday.

The members of Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) paid tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru on his 50th death anniversary at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, Sector 35, here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, president of the committee BB Behl said Nehru, who was the first prime minister of the country, imported and imparted modern values and ways of thinking, which he adapted to Indian conditions. He stressed on secularism and on the basic unity of the country, despite its ethnic and religious diversities.

He said Nehru was deeply concerned with carrying India forward into the modern age of scientific discovery and technological development. He aroused in his people an awareness of the necessity of social concern with the poor.

City mayor Harphool Chander Kalyan, former mayor Pardeep chhabra, councillor Gurbax Rawat, former councilors - Davinder Babla, HS Lucky - and other leaders of the Congress were present on the occasion.
