Two Border Security Force personnel were arrested by the government railway police (GRP) here for allegedly molesting a nine-year-old girl in a train near the Ambala Cantt railway station in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Posted at Bhuj in Gujarat, the two men - a sub-inspector and a constable, whose names were not revealed - were returning after participating in the BSF sports meet held at Jalandhar. They were in the same coach as the victim and her family, natives of Meerut (UP), aboard the Anand Vihar Express. The victim's parents and other passengers rounded them up after they attempted to molest her and she raised the alarm. Allegedly drunk, the two BSF men assaulted the victim's father too, it is alleged.
As the train stopped at the Cantt station, the victim's father lodged a complaint with the GRP, who registered a case under sections 323 (causing hurt) and 354 (outraging the modesty of a women) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested the duo.
Railway police sub-inspector Niyaz Mohammad said higher authorities were informed and the accused would be produced in a court on September 29. The victim's father said the family was returning from Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu, and the two men committed the crime when most of the passengers were asleep.
