Two questions of four marks each in the chemistry section of the All-India PreMedical Test (AIPMT), which was held on Sunday, didn’t have “any option as the right answer”. More than 13,000 students from Chandigarh and nearby states appeared for AIPMT which was held across 27 examination centres in the city.
Conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), students were distributed four sets of question papers with each set having same questions but with different serial numbers.
In Set R, all options in question number 152 related to organic chemistry and in 170 from inorganic chemistry were found incor rect. In Set S, the serial number of these wrong questions was 136 and 158, respectively.
City-based chemistry teacher Ananya Ganguly said in question 152, compounds of four molecules were given and students were asked to find the compound of the molecule that could undergo racemisation with the solution of KOH hydrolyses.
“Why this question is uncertain because all options had the choice of two molecules together, whereas only the fourth molecule alone can undergo racemisation,” he said.
Senior chemistry professor at Panjab University Kamal Nain Singh, who has specialisation in organic chemistry, also confirmed that all options in this question were wrong as only fourth structure alone could make the answer correct. He said students must file objections with the CBSE on this uncertain question.

{{/usCountry}}Question 170 had four options and students were asked which of these four had the correct representation for “ionic radii”.
Ganguly said all options in the questions were wrong since none of the option had the right structure that could prove to be the right representation for the “ionic radii”.
Varinder Kaur, assistant professor of chemistry at PU, also confirmed that all options for question 170 were wrong; therefore, the CBSE must give grace marks to all students, who appeared in the exam.
However, students are demanding immediate correct i on of these two questions from the CBSE.
Sector-52-based medical aspirant Prakash Gupta said these two questions must be cancelled and students be given bonus marks for both.
