Two militant hideouts were busted and a large cache of arms and ammunition seized in the Kashmir valley, official sources said here on Thursday.
They said police and 2 Rashitriya Rifles (RR), on a tip-off, launched a joint search operation at village Hanji Lawaypora in Badgam district of Jammu and Kashmir and busted a militant hideout there.
A large quantity of arms and ammunition, including two RPG grenades, four Chinese grenades, one Chinese pistol, one pistol magazine, three rounds of pistol ammunition were seized. However, no one was arrested.
In another incident, troops of 19 RR and state police conducted a joint operation at village Schin Dialgam under the limits of Kokernag police station in Anantnag district and came across a militant hideout in the open field.
A large cache of arms and ammunition, including one UBGL, one UBGL grenade, one Chinese grenade, one hand grenade, one FM trans receiver and two pistol magazines were seized.
Also seized were one wireless set, one RPG booster, four AK 47 magazines, one AK 47 silencer, one remote control IED box, one kg explosive, one kg sharp nails for preparing IED, one pressure cooker IED, one pouch and 120 rounds of AK ammunition.
However, a senior police officer said the arms and ammunition were rusted. He said the arms and ammunition could have been dumped by the militants more than ten years ago.
