Judicial magistrate Pradeep Synghal has convicted and sentenced a Sector-44 resident to two-year jail for cheating the UT administration by applying for another house when one house already existed in the name of her husband.
The convict, Savinder Jeet Kaur, has also been imposed a fine of RS 2,000.
“It is clear that accused dishonestly induced the UT administration to allot a plot in her favour and caused wrongful gain to herself and wrongful loss to administration by cheating,” ruled the court.
Under the rules, no person is eligible for applying for the plot or flat in the society if either the allottee himself or any of the spouse, HUF, any of the dependent relation including unmarried children owned a dwelling unit in tricity either on free hold or on hire-purchase basis.
The case
Savinder was booked in a case registered on June 26, 2004, by the vigilance department.
The inquiry was initiated after an anonymous letter was sent to the UT administration advisor alleging allotment of land to bogus members of Cooperative House Building Society Chandigarh.
The prosecution had alleged that Savinder Kaur had applied for plot in Progressive Corporative Housing Society Sector 44-B, Chandigarh despite the fact that already one house in her husband’s name in Sector 45, Chandigarh.
