This year, finance-based companies, including banks such as ICICI, visited the campus to recruit students.

The highest package fetched for the day was Rs 8 lakh per annum, which was offered by Ernst & Young, a US-based financial research company. New Gen also visited the department on Friday.

Last year, the same company had recruited six students from the department. This year, the number is 10.

The first round of placements will continue for around a week and other companies which have confirmed their visit include Wipro and Cipla.

The department authorities said the final picture of placements would be clear by December 14. In all, 140 students would sit for placements this year. The authorities concerned are sure of 100% placement.

This year, the department has put a cap of Rs 5 lakh on the minimum annual pay package.

The authorities concerned said though the market was still recovering from the recession setback, things seem to have improved to an extent this year.

Besides, the department is counting a lot on its alumni for placements this year. Many former students are at senior positions in good companies and would be coming for placements to their alma mater.
