The University Grants Commission (UGC) networking resource centre programme of University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) has been sanctioned an extension for the period of 2014-15 with a grant of Rs 1 crore.

An official spokesperson said, "The objective of the centre is to foster research and provide training in furthering higher education in pharmaceutical sciences nationwide."
The institute got distinction in 2009 for being one of the two networking resource centres in the field of life sciences, and the only one in pharmaceutical sciences in the country.
The programme has been sanctioned for a period of five years from 2009 to 2014 with an initial grant of Rs 5 crore.
