The UT administration has forwarded two names for the Padma Awards for this year from the city. The names were forwarded to the ministry of home affairs (MHA).

The name of acclaimed classical music vocalist Pandit Yashpaul and sports psychologist Dr Amit Bhattacharya was sent by the administration. Bhattacharya was also the mental trainer of Olympic gold medal winner Abhinav Bindra.

The centre had invited nominations by September 15. The padma committee invites recommendations from states and union territories. The names are assessed and the shortlisted names are sent to the prime minister's office. The awards are given by the President on Republic Day.
