Rubbishing Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia's allegations, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president and Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University chancellor Avtar Singh Makkar said the suspended V-C was corrupt and had a tainted past.

"For the university's sake, I had remained silent about the V-C's misdeeds. Ahluwalia should clarify why he recruited a female faculty member and gave her an increment of Rs 7,000 within 10 days of appointment," Makkar said.
He stated that as per documents available with the SGPC, Ahluwalia had himself picked the contractor for construction of the university's building. "He is now accusing me of corruption as I have marked an inquiry into alleged misuse of university funds," Makkar added.
The SGPC president said the V-C had himself appointed his (Makkar's) grandson and even given the latter increments. "If he recruited him on his own, why is he now raising the issue? I never approached him for the recruitment," he said.
Makkar said he had recommended the release of a student's roll number despite shortage of attendance as the latter was a cancer patient and had failed to attend classes regularly due to ongoing treatment. "Everyone knows about Ahluwalia's record at Punjabi University," Makkar said, adding that he would soon expose the V-C by presenting facts before the public.

He said a committee had been formed to look into Ahluwalia's tenure as V-C of the Fatehgarh-Sahib-based university. The panel report would be made public within a fortnight, the SGPC president said. Makkar said he would also file a defamation case against Ahluwalia for calling him corrupt.
