The Engineer Task Force of Vajra Corps, along with the medical teams, continued with its relief and rescue operations at Srinagar for the fourth day on Friday.
A total of around 2,125 personnel have been rescued by the task force to safe areas so far. Relief columns concentrated its operations in the worst-affected areas of Jawahar Nagar and Mehjoor Nagar. Relief and rescue operations in Hatf Chinar area have also been stepped up with additional rescue boats.
The flood relief aid initiative undertaken by the Vajra Corps has driven people of Punjab to come forward and contribute for the flood victims. So far, almost 96 tonnes of relief aid, comprising mineral water, meals ready to eat, blankets, clothes and medicines has been collected as volunteer contribution by the formations of Vajra Corps from Jalandhar, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Ludhiana and Meerut. Military aircraft are transporting the relief aid to the affected areas in Srinagar.
