After raising the ‘banner of revolt’ against Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa, former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday said he would not go to New Delhi “for sorting out any leadership issue with the high command.”
In a statement here, Amarinder also refuted news reports about his approaching the high command regarding the party leadership in Punjab.
Regarding his absence from Delhi on Thursday in the backdrop of Bajwa approaching party vice-president Rahul Gandhi on the leadership issue, Amarinder said he was on the way to Kolkata for a literary festival to sign copies of his book on India’s contribution in World War 1.
On the strained ties between the BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Amarinder termed state BJP chief Kamal Sharma’s presence on the Akali dais at the Maghi Mela as “unabashed opportunism exhibited by Akali-BJP leaders”.
“Akali and BJP leaders have broken all records of opportunism,” he remarked.
His statement, however, skipped any mention of his own absence from the party’s Maghi Mela congregation that was presided over by Bajwa in Mukstar on Wednesday.
Amarinder took a dig at CM Parkash Singh Badal for singing paeans to the BJP’s central leadership, apparently in a bid to keep the saffron party in good humour “for reasons best known to him”.
