A woman and her three minor children received burn injuries on Thursday when a motorcycle-cart being driven by her husband allegedly landed into a field where paddy stubble was set on fire.

The incident took place in the late evening between Namol and Longowal villages of the district, around 25 km from Sangrur town, due to poor visibility because of the smoke emanating from the farm fire.

The injured were rushed to the Longowal civil hospital from where they were referred to the Sangrur civil hospital.

Chamkaur Dass said that he, along with his wife, two daughters and a son, was travelling on the motorcycle-cart when the incident took place. “The smoke from the farm fire entered into my eyes and the cart landed into the field.”

Dr Baljit Singh of Sangrur civil hospital said the patients are out of danger.
