Young women arrested in connection with the now-busted postgraduate courses' entrance exam at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research cried their hearts out during their court appearance on Monday.
Crying aloud in the courtroom, they were seen begging everyone present, including officials of Chandigarh police and CBI, to kill them rather than keep them in custody any longer.
"Sir, hamein maar do, yahan nahi rehna," said one of the accused while her seven women co-accused cried aloud. Even men arrested in the case were teary-eyed, who were later sent in judicial custody.
An Andhra Bank employee, roped in by CBI to act as interpreter between the accused and their interrogators, tried to console the crying young women. He could be seen constantly guiding the women on putting signatures on documents.
Meanwhile, another accused Sujitha almost fainted during her court appearance since she had not consumed water or food since morning. She was given water to drink. Later, she was directed to get back on her feet to sign the papers, after which police officials escorted her to the jail.
Accused reunited with infant
Manjula, one of the accused, who was earlier allowed to keep her infant with her in jail, was reunited with her child on Monday. While she was giving writing specimens for analysis, the baby was held by her husband who has a spare parts shop in Andhra Pradesh. Manjula's love for her child was quite evident both in and outside the court as she fed and played with the child. The child would now be shuttling between Burail jail and the outside world since Manjula's family is presently in Chandigarh.
