A workshop on 'Advances in Transfusion Transmitted Injection (TTI) testing' was held at the 39th Annual Conference of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology by the department of transfusion medicine, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, on Wednesday.
According to a PGIMER press release, more than 100 delegates from all over India attended the workshop. Dr RN Makroo, a pioneer in Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) in India, spoke about the journey of ID NAT in India.
Dr Naveen Agnihotri from Fortis Hospital, New Delhi, spoke on 'Understanding infectious window periods for TTI'.
Dr Neelam Marwaha, head, department of transfusion medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh, Dr Neeraj Sharma from Government Medical College, Amritsar, Dr ML Kaushal from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla and Dr Ravneet Kaur from Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh, chaired various scientific panels.
Dr Suchet Sachdev and Dr Rekha Hans spoke on 'Quality issues in enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay testing', 'NAT yields in India' and 'Implementation in blood safety' respectively.
Dr Ajay Duseja from hepatology department, PGIMER, highlighted the risk of Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C in blood transfusion.
