Youth dies in road accident

A 30-year-old pedestrian died while two scooterists were injured after they were hit by a truck on the road stretch between the railway light and transport light junction on Friday night.

A 30-year-old pedestrian died and two scooterists were injured after being hit by a truck on the road stretch between the railway light and transport light junction on Friday night.

Bapu Dham resident Sunil Kumar Singh's legs were crushed in the accident and he was rushed to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research. Sunil later succumbed to his injuries in the wee hours on Saturday.

Sunil, who hailed from Bihar, worked with a private firm supplying cigarettes in the city. He leaves behind his wife and two children.

Police said the truck driver fled the spot. Giving details, the investigating officer, ASI Tikka Singh said the truck driver lost control of the truck after one of its tyres burst.

Tikka Singh said the truck coming from the Manimajra side first hit Sunil who was walking on the roadside. After ramming into Sunil, the truck hit a scooter, leaving two persons injured.

The police have registered a case against the unidentified driver.
