Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, who met the Mirwaiz on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly session on Friday, has reportedly extended the invitation.

"The invitation of government of Pakistan to Hurriyat chairman and his other colleagues is for meeting and exchange of views with the ruling and opposition parties," said a Hurriyat spokesman in Srinagar.

The Mirwaiz, who is in New York these days, met Zardari on Friday. "Zardari reiterated Pakistan's principled stance to continue extending all political, moral and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri brethren, who have rendered countless sacrifices for upholding their dignity and freedom," said the Mirwaiz.

The separatists received a shot in the arm recently when Zaradri raked Kashmir issue in his address to the UN. "Kashmir remains a symbol of the failure, rather than strength, of the UN system," Zardari told the UN gathering recently to chagrin of Indian diplomats.
