Former chief minister and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav was detained near Auras of Unnao district while he was on his way to Auraiya where party workers were caned by police a day earlier.

Akhilesh’s cavalcade was stopped near Hasangunj amid demonstration by hundreds of SP workers.
Sensing trouble, the police detained Akhilesh and took him to Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Dhaura. SP’s state president Naresh Uttam and MLA Amitabh Bajpai were also detained from Shivrajpur and Civil Lines in Kanpur.
Uttam’s supporters also had heated arguments with the police near Shivrajpur.
All roads leading to Auraiya were sealed on Thursday morning after reports that Akhilesh would visit Auraiya to protest the police action against SP workers.
The police had detained some senior SP leaders on Wednesday after they turned violent when they were not allowed to accompany their candidate for the zila panchayat chairperson’s post to the nomination room in the collectorate in Auraiya.
