Rajan Pupneja, is one of the chief eye-witnesses, as he is the co-owner of Boombox Café, Sector 9, that the deceased, Akansh Sen, was a partner of.

Recording his statement in court on Saturday, Pupneja confirmed Rarewala was in the BMW car that ran over Sen in the residential area of Sector 9 on February 9, 2017.

Earlier, two eye-witnesses Adamya Rathore and Karanyog Riar had also identified Rarewala in court while recording their statements. The three eye-witnesses had reportedly taken Sen to PGIMER following the attack.

Harmehtab Singh Rarewala alias Farid, and Balraj Singh Randhawa are the two accused in the case. Arrested on February 16, 2017, Rarewala is in custody and has been charged with murder, while Randhawa is absconding and has been declared proclaimed offender by court.

The duo had allegedly hit Sen with their BMW car in an inebriated condition and crushed him under the car’s wheels. The incident took place after an altercation between two groups involving the accused and the deceased.

Ramanjit Kaur, mother of Randhawa, had sought a CBI probe alleging harassment by UT police. After the UT requested the agency to conduct the investigation, the latter denied, stating that the local police were competent enough to probe the matter. Hence, they should continue with it. The Punjab and Haryana high court had in August told CBI to reason why it rejected the recommendation.
