According to RTO, all three buses were displaying registration number MH 01 FK 0073. Of the three buses, two buses were 31-seater and air-conditioned, while one that seized in the end was 46-seater non air-conditioned bus.

Motor vehicle inspector Anandram Wagle, who traced the three buses, said only the third bus, which was detained from Powai, is registered at Thane RTO. Wagle said the bus was plying without a valid fitness certificate. The bus is 12.5-m long, instead of the permissible 12m.

“RTO records suggest it is air-conditioned, but we found it without any air-conditioning fittings,” said Wagle. He said the other two buses, which were detained earlier, were relatively new.
