Former Karnataka chief minister S M Krishna, Infosys founder and IT industry veteran N R Narayana Murthy, and former badminton player Prakash Padukone, have been selected for the 'Kempegowda International Award', which has been instituted beginning this year.

Karnataka Higher Education Minister C N Ashwath Narayan, who is also the Vice-President of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Heritage Area Development Authority, made an announcement to this effect on Saturday. He said Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai will present the awards to recipients during the grand celebration on the 513th birth anniversary of Kempegowda, the architect of Bengaluru city, on June 27 at Vidhana Soudha.

The minister said all the three achievers have contributed in their own unique way for the development of Bengaluru and the fame it has garnered. The award carries a cash prize of 5 lakh along with a plaque. Narayan met Krishna at his residence today on behalf of the government and informed him about the award being bestowed upon him.

Expressing his happiness for being selected for the award, Krishna said he would be glad to accept it, the minister's office said in a statement. A high-level committee headed by the state's Startup Vision Group Chairman Prashanth Prakash has made this selection.

IT industry veteran Mohandas Pai, R Balasubrahmanyam-Founder of Vivekananda Youth Movement, and retired IAS officer M K Shankaralinge Gowda were members of the committee. R Vinayadeep, Commissioner of the Authority, is the member secretary of the committee.

    Over 1000 challans issued for single-use plastic violations in Gurugram

    Gurugram: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram till Saturday issued at least 1,054 fines of ₹7.35 lakh since the ban on single-use plastic, which came into effect on July 1 till August 6, according to a release issued by the civic body on Monday. The civic body officials also said that action against use of single-use plastic has remained steady over the past five weeks, and MCG cumulatively issued 643 fines till July 19.

    Man leaves hoax bomb threat letter at Faridabad’s Sarai Metro stn, held

    Faridabad police have tracked down a man who allegedly left a letter threatening bomb blasts on the escalator at Faridabad's Sarai Metro Station on Saturday to Moradabad in western Uttar Pradesh and apprehended him. The letter was found and handed over to Central Industrial Security Force staff on Sunday by a commuter, police said. The suspect has been identified as Rambeer Singh (21) of Moradabad who worked as a helper in a factory.

    Man dies by suicide inside Farrukhnagar govt school

    A 30-year-old man allegedly died by suicide inside a government school at Prem Nagar in Farrukhnagar on Sunday, police said on Monday. A two-page note addressed to the station house officer of Farrukhnagar police station was found from his car. Police said that the deceased, a resident of the area, reached the spot in his car at around 11.30am on Sunday. He left the suicide note on the car seat and called his uncle.
