Congress’ Kalka legislator Pradeep Chaudhary and 14 others were sentenced to three years of simple imprisonment by a Nalagarh court in a 2011 case of rioting.
The court of the judicial magistrate (first class) convicted the 15 accused of rioting, assault, use of criminal force to deter public servant from discharging of duty and mischief by fire or explosive substance under the Indian Penal Code, and under the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
The court also imposed a fine of ₹85,000 on each of the accused.

{{/usCountry}}The case dates back to May 31, 2011 when one Suchha Singh, a resident of Paploha village near Kalka, climbed up an electricity pole to evade checking by the traffic police at Barotiwala in Solan district’s Nalagarh tehsil, Himachal Pradesh.

{{/usCountry}}Currently out on bail, Chaudhary, 58, can approach the Himachal Pradesh high court against the judgment. Having a house in Sector 2, Panchkula, Chaudhary in October 2019 had wrested the Kalka Assembly seat by defeating sitting BJP MLA Latika Sharma by 5,931 votes.
