2015 Kotkapura firing: HC grants pre-arrest bail to former DGP Saini, two others
The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to former director general of police Sumedh Singh Saini, suspended inspector general of police Paramraj Singh Umranangal and ex-senior superintendent of police Charanjit Singh Sharma in the 2015 Kotkapura police firing case.

The Punjab and Haryana high court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to former director general of police (DGP) Sumedh Singh Saini, suspended inspector general of police Paramraj Singh Umranangal and ex-senior superintendent of police Charanjit Singh Sharma in the 2015 Kotkapura police firing case.
The high court bench of justice Raj Mohan Singh acted on the plea filed by trio. The court has directed that till the next date of hearing, they should not be arrested. They have been told to appear before the trial court within 15 days.
On March 21, a trial court in Faridkot had dismissed their pleas for anticipatory bail in a first information report (FIR) registered in 2018.
On February 24, the Punjab Police special investigation team (SIT) led by ADGP LK Yadav filed a chargesheet in a Faridkot court naming former CM Parkash Singh Badal, his son and then home minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and five police officers, including Saini, Umranangal, Sharma, among others. While the former CM was granted bail by the trial court, Sukhbir secured bail from high court on Tuesday.
All the three had argued that challan had been presented and their custodial interrogation was not required.
While posting the matter for May 30, the court ordered that a status report be filed by the state with a detailed chart in respect of allegations of justification of firing recorded in the earlier chargesheet and the present challan.
