23-year-old hacked to death in Tarn Taran village

A 23-year-old youth was found murdered near the cremation ground road in the border village Burj 169 near Rajatal under the Sarai Amanat Khan police station in Tarn Taran district on Saturday, police said.

Police said the body of Shivpreet Singh, son of Nirvel Singh, a resident of Bhaini Gillan village, was found lying on the roadside with multiple deep injuries inflicted by sharp-edged weapons.

After receiving information, station house officer (SHO) Baljinder Singh, along with a police team, reached the spot and launched an investigation.

Police said unidentified assailants allegedly killed the youth before dumping the body near the cremation ground road.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sukhbir Singh also visited the crime scene and reviewed the investigation. He said that the accused involved in the murder would be identified and arrested soon. Police officials said that the deceased had criminal cases registered against him at various police stations in Amritsar district. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while further legal proceedings and investigation into the murder is underway, police added.
