75-year-old man mauled to death by stray dogs in Amritsar
Residents said the elderly man’s cries for help went unanswered initially, as most people were indoors due to the hot weather
A 75-year-old man was allegedly mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Amritsar’s Islamabad locality on Saturday night.
The deceased, Gurdeep Singh, was a resident of Gali Chowkiya Wali under the Islamabad police station area.
According to information, he had returned home after work at a cloth shop in Tahli Sahib Market. After dinner, he stepped out to visit an ailing relative living in a nearby lane.
While returning home around 10.30 pm, Gurdeep was allegedly surrounded and attacked by a pack of seven stray dogs. CCTV footage from the area captured the incident, showing the dogs chasing the elderly man, knocking him to the ground and repeatedly attacking him as he struggled to escape.
Residents said his cries for help went unanswered initially, as most people were indoors due to the hot weather.
Passers-by later spotted the critically injured man and informed his family. However, by the time his relatives reached the spot, he had succumbed to his injuries.
Gurdeep is survived by his wife, a son and two daughters.
Shocked by the tragedy, residents urged authorities to take immediate measures to curb the stray dog population and prevent similar incidents in future.
