Aam Aadmi party (AAP) Chabbewal halqa in-charge Harminder Singh Sandhu has resigned from the primary membership of the party and re-joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

Sharing the development on social media handle ‘X’, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal welcomed Sandhu into his party fold and stated that his joining was a major boost to the party.
“I am confident that he will give his best to further strengthen the party”, Badal wrote.
He also announced to appoint Sandhu SAD’s in-charge of Chabbewal assembly constituency.
Sandhu comes from an Akali family but he had quit the party to contest the 2022 assembly election on AAP ticket. He was defeated by Congress’s Raj Kumar who later left Congress to join AAP and won the parliamentary election in 2024. Sandhu hoped that AAP would consider him for the assembly byelection necessitated by Raj Kumar’s resignation but the party fielded latter’s son Ishank Kumar. Sandhu felt betrayed and had since been weighing other options.
In SAD, he would now face challenge from veteran Akali leader Sohan Singh Thandal who has represented Chabbewal (erstwhile Mahilpur) four times.
