The fresh case has been registered on the complaint of Gurmeet Kaur, wife of Sukhwinder Singh, a priest at Shekhpur’s Singha Sabha Gurdwara, who alleged that her family was allegedly taken into illegal confinement at gunpoint by Amritpal to help him and his accomplice cross Sutlej.
The Shekhpur was the last location where the police traced him in the Jalandhar district. From here, both the wanted criminals entered into Ludhiana district, from where they boarded the bus to Haryana.
The case has been registered under Sections 386 (Extortion by putting a person in fear of death), 342 (illegal confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and other sections of the Arms Act.
In the FIR, the complaint alleged that she was alone in the house, situated inside the gurdwara premises, with her son and daughter when Amritpal, along with her accomplice, entered the gurdwara and came directly towards their house.
“Both had covered their faces and bolted the door from the inside. We were held at gunpoint and disallowed to move out. My son identified Amritpal when he uncovered his face following which he asked for water,” the FIR stated.
The complainant further alleged in the FIR that her son tried to call her husband to inform him that Amritpal had come to the gurdwara but he was not allowed to do so.
“Amritpal’s accomplice then pointed a gun at my son and asked him to hand over his motorcycle besides seeking help to cross Sutlej. They also switched their jackets and demanded new clothes and goggles,” the FIR said.
Amritpal then drove off with her son’s motorcycle.
“They reached Sutlej side via links roads near Meowal village but weren’t able to cross it due to the unavailability of boats. Amritpal and Papalpreet then used an old bridge near Ladowal village to go to the other side into Ludhiana district, and despite heavy police deployment on the main Sutlej bridge and Ladowal toll plaza,” an official said.
