Chandigarh court acquits man accused of sexually harassing British diplomat in 2021

A Chandigarh court has acquitted a man accused of sexually harassing a British diplomat in 2021.

According to the police, the victim had complained that she was on a morning walk near Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) in Sector 10 on October 6, 2021, when the accused riding a motorcycle hit and sexually harassed her.

The accused, Vishwas Kumar of Nayagaon locality in Chandigarh, was arrested two days later.

He was booked under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354-A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sector 3 police station.

The accused said he was being falsely implicated and opted for trial.

While a detailed order of the judgment was awaited, the court of chief judicial magistrate (CJM) Aman Inder Singh acquitted the accused on Tuesday.
