Chandigarh: Man arrested in hit-and-run case

Police have arrested a resident of Jind, Haryana who had fled after hitting and killing a pedestrian near Poultry Chowk on Zirakpur road.

A case under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving), 106 (causing death by negligence) and 125A (causing hurt by endangering life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at the Sector 31 police station. (HT File)

According to police, the accused had hit a pedestrian named Shiv Ram on July 7 with his Ertiga car, and fled the scene. The victim was shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Sector 32 where he succumbed to injuries during the treatment.

Meanwhile, the complainant who had seen the incident had noted down the vehicle’s registration number. Based on this the accused, Sumit was arrested. A case under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving), 106 (causing death by negligence) and 125A (causing hurt by endangering life) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at the Sector 31 police station. The accused was let off on bail.
