Chanot villagers threaten to raise demands at PM’s July 17 rally

With the protest for a T-connection from the Bhakra pipeline at Chanot village in Hansi entering its 56th day on Friday, Khap panchayats and farmers’ organisations from across the state have warned the state government to meet their demands by July 14, or else they will raise the issue before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming rally in Jind on July 17.

At the mahapanchayat, leaders questioned the government’s priorities, asking why they planned to send Yamuna water to Rajasthan through pipelines while residents of their own state continue to struggle for the same. The gathering asserted that ensuring access to clean drinking water was the government’s fundamental responsibility.

Rohdi Khap chief Hardeep Sharma accused the government of “forcing villagers to remain on the streets for nearly two months over such a basic necessity”.
