Convict among four arrested with 2.79 kg heroin in Ludhiana

Police’s special task force (STF) unit late on Saturday arrested a convict and three others for allegedly peddling drugs in two separate cases and recovered 2.79 kg heroin, ₹20,500 worth of drug money and two scooters from their possession.
In the first case, the STF arrested Gurpreet Singh, 24, of Kaliwal village of Moga and his aide Vineet Kumar. The STF recovered 2.41 kg heroin, ₹20,500 drug money, an electronic weighing machine, empty pouches and a scooter from their possession.
Inspector Harbans Singh, in-charge STF, Ludhiana range, arrested the accused near Moti Nagar following a tip-off. The accused were allegedly out to deliver a consignment. The duo was stopped for checking and upon being frisked, police recovered the heroin. The team impounded the scooter being used in the crime.
Giving out further details, assistant inspector general (AIG, STF) Snehdeep Sharma said Gurpreet Singh had been living in a rented accommodation in Adarsh Nagar.
“Gurpreet Singh is a convict in a drug peddling case and also facing trial in two cases of drug peddling and kidnapping. The accused told police that he has been jobless and smuggling drugs for the past five years. Vineet Kumar owns a grocery store in Moti Nagar and he has been into drug peddling for the past three years,” the AIG added.
An FIR under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at STF Mohali.
In the second case, meanwhile, the STF sleuths arrested Tarun Sidhu, 20, of Dr Ambedkar Nagar of Moti Nagar and Deepak Kumar, 21, of Khud Mohalla after recovering 380 gm heroin from their possession.
The STF arrested the accused near the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA) ground, Sector 39, on Chandigarh road.
Speaking of the arrests, deputy superintendent of police (DSP, STF) Davinder Chaudhary said Tarun Sidhu is already facing trial in four cases of drug peddling and one case of Arms Act. Deepak, the DSP revealed, was facing trial in a case of assault. The accused are in drug peddling for the past three years.
A case under section 21, 29 of NDPS Act has been registered against the accused at STF Mohali as well. More recoveries are expected from the accused during questioning.
