The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Ludhiana zonal unit, seized 103kg of ganja concealed in a specially modified car and arrested two people in connection with the case near the Inland Container Depot, Gateway Rail Freight Limited (GRFL), Sahnewal, on Saturday.

According to officials, the contraband, valued at approximately ₹31 lakh in the illegal market, was hidden in expertly crafted secret compartments built into the vehicle’s floor.
Acting on specific intelligence about narcotics being transported in violation of the NDPS Act, 1985, DRI officers mounted surveillance and intercepted the suspected car. A detailed search revealed 74 packets of cannabis, each wrapped in khaki-coloured plastic tape. The smugglers had engineered false floors and hidden chambers in the front, rear, and trunk sections of the car, a technique commonly used to evade detection, said officials.
Both the contraband and the modified car have been confiscated. The arrested individuals are currently in DRI custody, and a probe is underway to identify the broader network behind the smuggling operation.
