A 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing his five-year-old daughter in Jalandhar, police said.

The accused, identified as Arvinder, is a native of Chhattisgarh and was living in a rented accommodation in the Doordarshan Enclave area of the city.
According to investigating officer Balwinder Singh, Arvinder was alone at home with the child at the time of the incident, as his wife, who works as a domestic help, was away.
“The incident came to light when the victim’s mother returned home and found her daughter lying unconscious. She immediately rushed the child to a local hospital, where doctors declared her dead,” police said.
Police further stated that the accused is a drug addict and was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the crime. He allegedly banged the child on the ground and then strangled her to death, police said.
A case has been registered under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and further investigation is underway, police said.
