Jailed MP from Baramulla, Er Rashid, has been granted five-day interim bail by the high court to attend Chahlum (40th-day religious observance) of his late father, said AIP.

Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said the Chahlum of late Khazir Mohammad Sheikh is scheduled to be observed in accordance with religious traditions and Er Rashid will be joining his family members, relatives, well-wishers and supporters during the occasion.

“MP Baramulla is expected to arrive in Srinagar on Thursday morning and will remain available in Srinagar from Friday afternoon onwards to receive people who wish to offer condolences and express solidarity with the bereaved family.”

Nabi also said that while the family continues to mourn the loss of a respected elder, the occasion also carries emotional significance for Er Rashid, who has been unable to remain with his family owing to his prolonged incarceration.
