Kapurthala police on Friday arrested five persons from Jalandhar for opening fire at a woman. The victim, identified as Manpreet Kaur (30), suffered a bullet injury after she was assaulted on Thursday evening by unidentified assailants while returning home from work. She is currently admitted to a local hospital.

SP Prabhjot Singh Virk said that acting swiftly on the victim’s complaint, the police collected CCTV footage from the crime scene and formed special teams to track the movement of the accused, who were arrested from Jalandhar on the basis of vital clues. The accused have been identified as Dev Darshan, Sooraj Thapar, Krish Lahoria, Harmandeep Singh and Anmol Kumar, all residents of Kapurthala city.
SP Virk said that accused Sooraj was known to the victim and had personal enmity with her. “Sooraj orchestrated the entire assault to settle scores with the victim,” he said. Police have also recovered the .30-bore pistol used in the crime.
