Last Thursday, a Faridkot court had dismissed his anticipatory bail plea in the case.

However, the trial court had granted interim protection from arrest to his father and former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on health grounds.

Last month, the additional director general of police (ADGP) LK Yadav-led special investigation team (SIT) had filed a chargesheet in the police firing case, naming Parkash Singh Badal and Sukhbir, who also held the home portfolio, and former Punjab Police chief Sumedh Singh Saini among the accused.

The high court bench of justice Raj Mohan Singh, while seeking response from the Punjab government by May 30, has granted interim protection from arrest to the Akali leader.

The detailed order is awaited.
