Indian Railways’ Jaiveer, who hails from Hubli, braved the rains and heavy winds to play one-under round 71 to post an overall score of six-under to emerge victorious at the Samarvir Sahi Golf Championship, held at the Chandigarh Golf Club. Jaiveer won by four shots over Shaurya Bhattacharya of New Delhi, who also played one-under on the day to finish the tournament at an overall score of two-under. The overnight leader Rohit had a bad day to shoot a seven-over round of 79. He finished second runners-up with a total of 287.

Miscreants attempt to break open ATM in Mauli Jagran

Chandigarh Police booked unidentified accused for attempting to break open an ATM in Mauli Jagran. In his complaint, Gagandeep of Peer Muchalla, told the police that he had installed an ATM machine at his shop in Mauli Jagran. On March 18, he had left home after locking the same only to find the shutter lock and door broken and the ATM machine damaged the next day. A case was registered.

Purse stolen from AG office parking

Chandigarh A man caught on camera while stealing a purse from the AG Punjab office’s parking at the Punjab and Haryana high court complex. In her complaint Sonu of Sector 4 who works as peon at the office, told police that she had parked her Activa in the parking, but found her purse containing cash 20,000, a gold chain and gold earrings had been stolen from the boot upon returning. She identified one of the accused as Bhim Sain Verma, a salesman, while scanning the CCTV footage. His aide remains unidentified. A case was registered.

Man loses 89k to online swindlers

Chandigarh A shopkeeper lost 89,289 to fraudsters posing as customer care officials. The complainant, Kamaljit Thakur told police that he was facing issues receiving payments on his digital wallet and on December 23, 2022, contacted a customer care number that he found online. The responder, posing as a customer care executive, asked for a few details, following which 89,289 were withdrawn from his account over multiple transactions.

Two-day hockey trials in Amritsar

Chandigarh RoundGlass Punjab Hockey Academy (RGPHA) will conduct open trials for boys born between November 1, 2008, and December 31, 2009, for their residential academy. The participants must be residents of Punjab. The trials will be held at the Hockey Stadium, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, on March 25 and March 26, from 8 am onwards. The selected athletes will receive a full scholarship at the residential academy, where they will receive state-of-the art training under the guidance of Dronacharya awardee Rajinder Singh (Sr).

Three-day ConfAI comes to a close

Chandigarh The three-day second annual academic conference on Artificial Intelligence (ConfAI) concluded on Friday at Plaksha University’s campus. The conference brought together AI experts, researchers, and scholars to share their insights on the latest developments in this field. The conference, aimed at showcasing the potential of AI and data science in finding solutions to societal challenges, included contributed paper presentations and talks by various experts.

Two PGIMER students win ECCMID outreach award

Chandigarh Two students of PGIMER’s department of medical parasitology have been awarded the outreach award/grant to attend the 33rd European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) to be held at Copenhagen, Denmark. Six-year-old attacked by monkeys

Panchkula A six-year-old sustained injuries after being bitten by a monkey in Sector 25. The victim, Srishti, was playing outside her house when monkeys surrounded her. The injured girl is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Sector 26.

Lecture on Ukraine War at Ambala College

Ambala Prof Vinay Malhotra on Friday delivered an extension lecture on “Ukraine War: Causes and Impact on India” at the Government PG College in Ambala’s Naraingarh. Malhotra, a former college principal, also donated a wheelchair to the college on behalf of the VVM Trust that he runs.
