Commissioner of police Satinder said accused Naval Bhardwaj, alias Billa, was arrested for opening fire at a readymade garments store on June 12 as part of an extortion bid.

During interrogation, he disclosed that he had concealed the motorcycle used in the crime in the Jamsher area.

“Based on this information, a police team from CIA Staff Jalandhar took the accused to Jamsher for the motorcycle’s recovery. But upon reaching there, the accused suddenly pushed the cop holding his hand and picked up a pistol, which was concealed in the bushes near the two-wheeler. The accused loaded the pistol and fired at the police party,” the police official said.

He added that the police party asked the accused to surrender. However, he fired again at the police personnel and tried to flee. In order to apprehend the accused and in self-defence, the team retaliated, during which one bullet hit the accused’s left leg.
