A 43-year-old labourer was electrocuted to death while attempting to save a mason who came in contact with overhead high-tension wires during the construction of a gurdwara gate in Iraq village near Machhiwara on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Dharminder, a resident of village Ranvan. The injured mason, Sarabjit Singh of village Takkhran, sustained serious burn injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to villagers, the two workers were engaged in shuttering work for the construction of the gate when the structure allegedly touched overhead electricity wires passing close to the site.
Speaking from the hospital, Sarabjit Singh said he suffered an electric shock after accidentally coming in contact with the wires during the work.
“When I came in contact with the current, Dharaminder rushed to rescue me. He too got electrocuted in the process,” he said. Locals immediately shifted them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared Dharminder brought dead, while Sarabjit Singh was admitted for treatment. Dharminder was the sole breadwinner and is survived by his wife and two children.
