The Division Number 5 police have booked a man for allegedly availing a bank loan in the name of his deceased wife by forging her signature and later attempting to claim insurance benefits.
The accused Vimlesh Kumar was booked following a complaint lodged by ICICI bank officer Inderpreet Singh, posted at the Urban Estate, Dugri branch.
According to the complaint, the accused concealed the fact that his wife Urmila had died in 2019 and fraudulently obtained a balance transfer loan of ₹12.81 lakh from the bank in 2022. During the loan process, he allegedly falsely showed his deceased wife as a co-applicant and submitted her photograph along with forged documents and signatures.
The bank official further alleged that the accused later attempted to claim insurance benefits in her name as part of the fraud.
After verifying the complaint, the police registered a case against the accused under sections related to cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy.
Assistant sub-inspector Balwinder Singh, the investigating officer, said an FIR under sections 420, 465, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC has been registered. Police are conducting a search to arrest the accused.
