Illegal construction: Assistant town planner among 2 Ludhiana MC officials suspended

Two officials of the building branch of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation have been suspended by the local bodies department for allowing illegal construction.

Sunil Kumar, assistant town planner, and Kuleet Singh Mangat, inspector (technical) have been suspended in the Vardhman City Centre case.

The officials had reportedly allowed the construction of an illegal building in Vardhman Park on the Chandigarh road and did not take any action. The building owners had allegedly clubbed 30 shop-cum-offices into a complex. While Kumar was working at the Zone A office of the MC, Mangat was deployed at Zone C.

In his order issued on Wednesday, Vivek Partap Singh, principal secretary of the local bodies department of the Punjab government, said that both the officials are being suspended with immediate effect based on the investigation done by the department.

The order said that the decision has been approved by the local bodies minister.
