Nearly 1,000 girls from 20 government schools across Ludhiana have joined a self-defence training programme organised by the Sports, Physical Education, Fitness and Leisure Skills Council (SPEFL-SC) in collaboration with Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC). The two-month training programme, which started in January, conducted various practice sessions in different government schools.

During the event, students demonstrated techniques to escape attacks, defend themselves and handle dangerous situations.

The audience applauded as the girls confidently performed the moves they had learned during the training sessions. For many girls, the training was more than just learning physical techniques. Rajbeer, a participant from 12 to 16 age group, said increasing cases of violence against women motivated her to join the programme. She shared that her parents supported her from the beginning and now she feels confident enough not only to protect herself but to also help other girls in difficult situations.
