In view of rising crimes in the city, police commissioner Kautubh Sharma conducted a surprise inspection on Sunday night and checked vehicles himself. During the checking, one man was nabbed with a stolen mobile phone.
Besides, one car was stopped and when police tried to search it, the driver fled after throwing a sharp weapon out of the vehicle.
Sharma inspected checkpoints and night patrolling in the city. He visited Moti Nagar area following repeated robberies in the area and also scanned records and daily register at the local police station.
Sharma said that three stretches in Moti Nagar, including RK Road, Sherpur Road and Metro Road are prone to snatchings. Recently, some snatchings were reported from these spots, which prompted him to visit the area. He also found that some areas did not have street lights, which makes it easy for miscreants to rob people.
“I have asked police officers to increase patrolling in these spots and will take up the installation of streetlights with municipal commissioner Shena Agarwal,” said the police chief.
He remained Moti Nagar till 11:30 pm and then went towards Clock Tower to conducted a checking there.
Inspector Kulwant Singh, SHO at Moti Nagar police station, said that Sharma has ordered increase in vigil in the area to deter snatchers.
On April 23, Sharma had performed the duty of the police control room (PCR) patrolling staff along with other senior officers and SHOs .
On April 10,he conducted a surprise check at various traffic posts and police stations early in the morning while cycling.
