Ludhiana woman dies after speeding car hits scooter

The driver of the car, who was identified as a resident of Guru Ramdas Nagar, Moga, has been booked following the complaint lodged by the victim’s son Jagveer Singh

In yet another road mishap on the city roads, an elderly woman died while her daughter suffered serious injuries after a speeding car hit their scooter near Gurusar Kaunke cut on Monday evening.

The victim has been identified as Chhinder Kaur, a resident of Basti Godhewal, Moga, while her injured daughter was identified as Jaspreet Kaur. The latter is currently undergoing treatment for her injuries at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana.

The driver of the car, Simardeep Singh, a resident of Guru Ramdas Nagar, Moga, has been booked following the complaint lodged by the victim’s son Jagveer Singh.

The complainant said her mother and her sister were headed towards Kaonke Khosa village to meet his elder sister Daljit Kaur on their scooter being driven by the former. His mother, meanwhile, was riding pillion. When they reached the Gurusar Kaunke cut, a speeding car hit them from behind — following which the duo fell to the road and suffered serious injuries.

Assistant sub-inspector Major Singh, investigating officer, said a case under sections 304A (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), 337, 338 (both causing hurt to any person by rash or negligent acts) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused and a hunt is on for his arrest.
