Ludhiana: 52-yr-old dead as truck hits motorcycle

A 52-year-old man died in a tragic road accident after his motorcycle was hit by a canter truck near the main gate of Halwara airbase on the Mullanpur–Raikot road late Wednesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Mandeep Verma, a resident of Pakhowal village in Ludhiana district. Police said Verma, who worked as a goldsmith, was returning to his village after visiting the in-laws of his brother in Mullanpur when the speeding canter truck struck his motorcycle. The impact was so severe that he died on the spot.

Sub-inspector Gurdeep Singh, station house officer (SHO) of the Sudhar police station, said the police took the body to the civil hospital for a postmortem examination. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded.

The SHO added that the victim left behind his wife, two daughters and a son, who are devastated by the sudden loss. An FIR has been registered against the truck driver, who is yet to be arrested.
