A man carrying a country-made pistol was caught at the Ludhiana railway station here on Tuesday evening, Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said. The accused has been identified as 26-year-old Noushad, who hails from Firozabad and works as a labourer in Jammu. He was carrying a .315-bore pistol while on his way back to Jammu.

“He had to alight here as the train was not going to Jammu. He wanted to board another train. During regular checking, he was found carrying the pistol,” said Inspector Palwinder Singh, GRP’s Ludhiana incharge. An FIR under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act has been registered.
Noushad was produced before a magistrate on Thursday. The GRP secured a day’s remand for him for investigation. He has now been sent to the jail on Tajpur Road.
