A man was booked on charges of cruelty and giving triple talaq to his wife in Himachal’s Chamba district, police officials said on Monday.

The case was registered based on his wife’s complaint, in which she alleged that her husband and mother-in-law subjected her to physical and mental harassment and threatened to kill her.

She further alleged that her husband pronounced “talaq” three times in the presence of her brother and their neighbour, before forcing her out of the house.

The accused has been identified as Rustam, of Chamba tehsil. The case, under Sections 85, 351(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), has been registered against Rustam and his mother. Rustam has also been booked under Section 4 of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019. Meanwhile, police officials said that the investigation in the case is underway.
