Lovekaran Singh, 25, of Kaunke Kalan village, was shot at by an unidentified man near a local religious site on Thursday night, police said.

Lovekaran had gone with a friend to pay obeisance at the shrine in the village, and as soon as he stepped out of his car, a man, who had been lying in wait, fired at him from behind. One of the bullets struck him in the back, while another reportedly scraped past him.
Despite being injured, Lovekaran managed to run back to his car and sped away. The attackers fled the scene in a SUV along with their accomplices.
His friend rushed him to the Jagroan civil hospital, from where doctors referred him to Ludhiana. Speaking at the hospital, Lovekaran said the attackers were residents of the village.
ASI Jagdev Singh said an investigation is underway and efforts are being made to identify and arrest the suspects. The ASI added that the police are examining possible motives and are scanning the area for CCTV footage.
