Man throws acid on wife in Himachal’s Mandi, held

Mandi police have arrested a man who allegedly threw acid on his wife after an argument and pushed her from the first floor, officials said on Sunday.

The incident took place on Saturday evening in Sain Mohalla of Mandi town and the accused has been identified as Nand Lal. The victim was immediately taken to Zonal Hospital Mandi for medical assistance and was later referred to AIIMS Bilaspur. Police officials on Sunday said that the victim has been referred to PGIMER in Chandigarh.

Police said that the preliminary inquiry suggested that the accused, who runs a tea shop near Zonal Hospital Mandi, has been in a prolonged domestic issue with his wife. On Saturday, at around 6.15 pm, he reportedly returned home, went to his wife’s room, and after an argument, threw acid on her. He also pushed her off the first floor of the house.

The accused has been arrested and an FIR has been registered in the matter. Police officials said that further investigation is underway to ascertain the complete circumstances surrounding the incident.

The accused was produced before the court on Sunday and was sent to three-day police remand.
